Nu-Calgon’s Cal-Treat  (Part # 4149-05) is a high-performance liquid chemical formulation, specially engineered to protect water-cooled systems—such as condensers, cooling towers, boilers, and chillers—from corrosion, scale buildup, and metal deterioration. Ideal for industrial and commercial HVAC/R applications, especially where water is soft or of low alkalinity.

Key Features & Benefits
  • Advanced corrosion inhibition: Combines organic phosphonates, polyacrylates (for silt/particulate dispersion), zinc and molybdate inhibitors, and benzotriazole for copper protection.
  • Scale prevention: Helps prevent scale formation on critical heat transfer surfaces—keeping systems efficient and reducing energy and maintenance costs.
  • Optimized for soft, low-alkalinity water: Especially effective when makeup water has total alkalinity under ~30 ppm, or where corrosion is already visible.
  • High-value packaging: Supplied in a 5-gallon pail—suitable for large systems or frequent maintenance cycles.

Recommended Usage & Guidelines
  • Treatment level: Maintain residual of ~200-250 ppm of Cal-Treat for effective corrosion protection.
  • Makeup water condition: Best utilized when total alkalinity of makeup water is below ~30 ppm, or when system shows signs of corrosion.
  • Bleed-off / cycles of concentration: Use bleed-off rates of about 0.25-0.36 gallons per hour per ton, aiming to keep cycles of concentration ≤ 6-8.
  • Feeding method: For systems up to ~90 tons, use drip-feeders (Nu-Calgon No. 215 or 1075); for larger systems, a feed pump is recommended.
Why Choose Nu-Calgon 4149-05 ?
  • Reduces equipment downtime by preventing leaks, corrosion, and scale damage.
  • Improves thermal efficiency by maintaining clean metal surfaces.
  • Helps extend the life of expensive HVAC/R components.
  • Cost-effective for large-scale and industrial settings due to concentrated strength and 5-gal packaging.
