Nu-Calgon 4287-34 Nickel-Safe Ice Machine Cleaner is a highly concentrated citric and phosphoric acid descaler engineered for safe and effective removal of mineral scale from ice machines equipped with nickel-plated or tin-plated evaporators. Developed to address the industry need for a cleaner that protects sensitive plated surfaces, this formula delivers aggressive scale removal performance without damaging evaporator coatings.

Why Scale Forms in Ice Machines

In ice production systems, water freezes in its pure state while dissolved minerals such as calcium and magnesium remain in the recirculating water. As freeze cycles continue, these minerals become increasingly concentrated and eventually precipitate into hard lime scale deposits. Over time, scale buildup forms on evaporators, water troughs, distribution tubes, pumps, and internal surfaces. This accumulation can clog distribution holes, restrict water flow, reduce ice harvest efficiency, increase energy consumption, and lead to premature service interruptions or equipment shutdown.

Nickel-Safe Protection for Plated Evaporators

Nickel-Safe Ice Machine Cleaner dissolves these deposits effectively, helping restore optimal heat transfer, improve water circulation, and maintain consistent ice production. Unlike standard acid descalers that may attack nickel or tin plating, this specially balanced formula is designed to clean plated evaporators safely, making it ideal for Manitowoc and other nickel-plated ice machines.

Professional Maintenance Applications

The 16 oz bottle is well suited for preventative maintenance programs, seasonal servicing, and professional HVAC/R or food service applications. For removable components, mix 3 ounces per gallon of warm water and soak scaled parts until deposits dissolve. For in-machine cleaning, use 5 fluid ounces per gallon of system water and circulate according to equipment manufacturer instructions. After cleaning, drain the system completely and flush thoroughly with fresh water before returning the machine to operation.

Compatibility and Food Area Use

This cleaner is compatible with cubers, flakers, drum, and tube-style ice machines and is NSF Registered for use in food preparation environments when applied according to label directions. Routine descaling with Nu-Calgon 4287-34 helps extend equipment life, maintain ice quality, reduce maintenance costs, and prevent performance-related service calls.

Ideal For

Restaurants, commercial kitchens, hospitality facilities, healthcare environments, convenience stores, institutional food service operations, and HVAC/R service professionals who require a reliable nickel-safe ice machine descaler for routine maintenance.
