Nu-Calgon 4330-05 – Liquid Scale Dissolver, 5 Gal Pail

Nu-Calgon’s Liquid Scale Dissolver (part #4330-05) is a high-strength, fast-acting descaling solution designed for industrial and commercial HVAC systems. It quickly dissolves calcium carbonate, lime, and iron oxide deposits while protecting metal components from corrosion. The low-foam formulation ensures smooth circulation, making it ideal for cooling towers, boilers, and heat exchangers.

Key Features & Benefits
  • Powerful hydrochloric acid-based formula for rapid mineral scale removal
  • Low-foaming action enhances cleaning efficiency and prevents overflow
  • Built-in corrosion inhibitors protect copper, steel, and brass components
  • pH color-change indicator signals when solution is neutralized
  • Safe for use on copper, steel, iron, brass, rubber, plastic, and wood (not for galvanized steel)
  • Clear orange liquid with acidic odor and specific gravity of approximately 1.107
Typical Applications
  • Cooling towers and evaporative condensers
  • Closed chilled water loops
  • Hot water and steam boilers
  • Shell-and-tube condensers
  • Water treatment systems
Usage & Directions
  1. Drain and flush the system to remove debris and sludge.
  2. Refill with water, adding 1 gallon of Liquid Scale Dissolver per 20 gallons of system water.
  3. Vent all tanks or enclosures to avoid pressure buildup.
  4. Circulate until scale dissolves completely.
  5. Monitor color: green/light blue = active; blue/purple = spent.
  6. When the solution stays green for 15–30 minutes, descaling is complete.
  7. Rinse system thoroughly with clean water.
Important: Never leave the solution in the system for more than 6 hours. Heavy scale removal may reveal pre-existing leaks.

Safety & Handling
  • For professional use only
  • Corrosive – causes severe skin and eye burns
  • Wear acid-resistant gloves, goggles, and protective clothing
  • Use in a well-ventilated area
  • Avoid galvanized surfaces (may produce hydrogen gas)
  • Dispose of waste according to local regulations
  • UN 1789 – Corrosive Liquid, Class 8
